Preparation matters more than the paving
A patio that stays flat and drains properly depends on what is underneath it. We excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a suitable sub-base, set levels with a slight fall away from the house so rainwater runs off, and only then lay the surface. Shortcuts here show up as sunken, uneven or stained paving a few winters later.

Can you build the patio at the same time as an extension?+
